NOTICE: A new Climbing in Ermionida Guidebook (edition 2023) is published
You can find the updated version here.
Once upon a time, back in the 2000’s, a climbing revolution occurred in Ermionida, East Peloponnese. The British climber, Jim Titt, and the German Inge Zaczek went and equipped more than 200 routes on the area’s excellent limestone rocks, with stainless steel bolts. They spent a lot of their time, money and effort for the development of sport climbing in the area and we are thankful for it.
In 2021, the local climbing community, with the aid and support of the Municipality of Ermionida and Tripolis Mountaineering Club, carried out maintenance works on the various crags and replaced several anchors, with new high quality and certified material.
In 2022, a new crag (the 8th in the region), Petrogerakas crag was developed near Katafyki Gorge. In addition, three new sectors were bolted in Castle Thermisia (Orias’ Wall, Leon’s Wall and Byzantine Wall) and several more routes in the crags of Ermionida.

The rock climbing around Ermionida and generally the Argolis region is all on excellent solid grey limestone. The majority of the routes are single pitch sport climbing routes, though there are some trad climbing routes as well. However all of the climbing areas are only partially developed, which means there is a massive opportunity to establish new routes in the area.
The Argolis area claims to receive over 3,000 hours of sunshine per year and is a popular holiday destination. It also means that it is possible to rock climb virtually all year round in the Argolis region, even in the hot summer months as some crags such as Didyma are at an altitude of over 1,000m.
We have visited the area many times, we climbed in all crags, we gathered information, we took nice photos and we present you the Climbing in Ermionida Guidebook for free.

About Ermionida
Ermionida is a municipality in the Argolis regional unit, Peloponnese, Greece. The seat of the municipality is the town of Kranidi.
Ermioni is a small fishing town in Ermionida (Argolis) on the east of Peloponnese. The traditional taverns, the cafés, the paved streets, the beautiful houses and the crystal clear beaches around this area are some of the reasons which make this town is an interesting summer destination of Peloponnese.
While travelling around the area, you will have the chance to admire olive and pine trees along with plenty of bays with turquoise waters but also plenty of climbing crags. Rock climbing around Ermionida and generally the region of Argolis is all on excellent solid grey limestone.
The majority of the routes are single pitch sport climbing routes, though there are some trad climbing routes as well.
However all of the climbing areas are only partially developed, which means there is a massive opportunity to establish new routes in the area. The area of Argolis gets over 3,000 hours of sunshine per year and is a popular holiday destination.
This also means that it is possible to rock climb virtually throughout the whole year in the region, even in the hot summer months, as some crags such as Didyma are found on higher elevation – as high as 1,000 m.!

That’s crazy how the Argolis area receives over 3,000 hours of sunshine a year! No wonder it’s a popular spot to take vacation and to go climbing.

Thank you for your kind comment and indeed, this area is a popular place, but not like Kalymnos or Leonidio.
Nevertheless a great spot for some nice Sun, rock and sea. 🙂
