About the famous Firiki Peliou – Apple variety
Firiki Peliou, also known as “Φιρίκι Πηλίου” in Greek, is a cherished variety of miniature apples protected under the designation of Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) from Greece. Thriving in the small, hilly area of Pelion, eastern mainland Greece, these apples benefit from the region’s mild climate with cool summers, high humidity, and slight seasonal temperature variations – ideal conditions for their growth. The Firiki apples, with their unique elongated, cylindrical shape and charming yellow-green skin with reddish tones, offer a juicy, sweet flavor with low acidity.
