Evrytania is almost entirely formed of mountains, including the Tymfristos and the Panaitoliko in the south. Its rivers include the Acheloos in the west, Agrafiotis to the east, and Megdova in the east flowing down to the Ionian Sea. It is one of the least populated regional units in Greece. The area borders Aetolia-Acarnania to the west, southwest and south (west over the Acheloos river), Karditsa regional unit to the north, and Phthiotis to the east. Evrytania also features a famous skiing resort located near Karpenisi on the Tymfristos mountain.
The gorge of Black Cave is about 2 km from the village of Prousos. This is one of the most beautiful and impressive canyons of Evritania. The gorge takes its name from the famous Black Cave which was a refuge for local residents during the Ottoman period and during the German occupation. What makes the gorge of Black Cave special is the only via ferrata route. This only via ferret route starts from the black cave.
The route that the visitor needs to take starts from a traditional stone fountain next Prousou bridge. Although the path is relatively easy there are some steep passages.
The beautiful scenery follow one another with picturesque wooden bridges and waterfalls that offer breathtaking views.
The canyon is not very difficult and is suitable for beginners. It has 10 technical descents with the largest waterfall has a height of 15 meters.

Wow! That is amazing! Are you allowed to go into the structure inside the cave?

Yes, it is allowed to walk in. Though, there is nothing of really special inside the cave 🙂
What is very nice, is the small trail to reach the Black Cave, but also a nice Via Ferrata which starts just from Black Cave.
