How to Reach Livaditis Waterfall

Reaching the Livaditis Waterfall parking spot is an adventure in itself, offering a scenic drive through the stunning landscapes of the Rodopi Mountain Range. From the city of Xanthi, head northeast on the main road towards the village of Livaditis, approximately 49 kilometers away. The drive, which takes about an hour, winds through picturesque mountain villages and dense forests, gradually climbing in altitude as you approach Livaditis. As you get closer, the road becomes narrower and more winding, with large oak and beech trees lining the way, offering glimpses of the rugged beauty that awaits.

Once you reach Livaditis village, continue following the signs for the Livaditis Waterfall. The road eventually transitions into a dirt path as you near the parking area, located at the trailhead. While the dirt road is navigable by most vehicles, those who prefer to keep their car on paved surfaces can park earlier and begin their hike from there, adding about 40 minutes to the trek. The parking spot marks the beginning of the official hiking trail to the waterfall, where you can leave your vehicle and embark on the hour-and-a-half journey through the enchanting Haidou Forest.

Hiking to the Waterfall: A Journey Through Nature

Upon reaching the designated car park—where you can park your vehicle and continue on foot—the adventure truly begins. For those with a penchant for a more rugged experience, you can extend your hike by starting from Livaditis Village, though during summer time is not recommendable due to the high temperatures. The hiking path, which takes approximately 40 minutes to traverse, winds through a dense canopy of beech and other towering trees, offering a serene escape into nature. Along the way, you’ll cross babbling brooks and catch glimpses of the forest’s rich flora and fauna, all while breathing in the crisp, clean mountain air.

The hike is straightforward, following a well-organized and fully marked trail. However, it’s essential to bring plenty of water.

As you hike, you’ll reach the trail’s highest point, where you’ll find ample signage and a covered rest area—perfect for those who need a break. We chose to skip the rest and eagerly continued our descent toward the waterfall. As you draw closer, the sound of rushing water becomes your first indication of the waterfall’s impressive presence, growing louder with each step.
